Did you know that Woodford Golf Club has an active Seniors Section?
* you get to play a variety of formats
* you get to play other courses (for just the price of the meal afterwards, usually about £15)
* if a 7-day member, you can play in all the main club competitions as well (they are generally on Saturdays)
* you can meet a great set of guys
In addition to monthly stablefords, there are a number of regular competitions which follow a variety of formats such as matchplay knockout, 3-club stableford, bogey, as well as joint fixtures with the Ladies. Apart from the monthly stablefords, competitions are usually followed by a lunch in the clubhouse.
There are also about 20 fixtures against local clubs, mostly played on a home-and-away basis, and some against societies. These are also followed by a sit-down lunch.
The regular time for seniors matches and competitions is on a Wednesday morning, although a number of inter-club fixtures are played on other weekdays, mostly in the morning.
The seniors also meet on Monday and Friday mornings for 9 or 18 holes of golf, to suit those who turn up.
If you are over 55 and not working full-time (basically, if you have Wednesdays free) and are a playing member of Woodford Golf Club, you can join the Seniors Section for a nominal £10 a year. You would still have to pay for the lunches, though.
If interested, contact any of the Seniors Committee - 2020 Captain Ray Blackgrove, secretary John Walker, treasurer David Howells, or competition secretary Tom Steed. You can contact them via the club office, who would also be happy to give you more information about the seniors and about the club itself.
