Visitor Information

Visitors are welcome to play at Woodford, one of the oldest golf courses in Essex, at most times during the week, to play 9 or 18 holes. There are some restrictions on playing times, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and on most Saturdays until after 3.30pm. Please contact the Pro Shop on 020-8504-3330 to check on availability before arriving, or go to the Tee Availability page.

Handicap certificates are not required. Green fees should be paid to the Pro Shop before beginning a round. Failing that, the secretary's office and the bar will gladly accept payment. The Pro Shop and bar can accept card payments, as can the office if the Pro Shop is closed (office open weekday mornings only).

Visitors have the courtesy of the clubhouse on the day of playing, and can use the changing facilities and the bar. Societies are welcome - please see the Societies and Corporate page. -

Please contact the Office on 020-8504-3330 for further information.

Which Tees to use?

Visitors may only play off the yellow tees (men) and red tees (ladies).

We recognise that visitors may experience some confusion as to knowing which tee to play off on the 2nd, 11th and 18th yellow tees (although there should be wooden markers in place to show where to play).

When you leave the 1st green and go through the path on the left of the green, the tee directly in front of you is the 11th yellow. On your left and up the slope a little is the 2nd yellow tee. This tee is used for the 2nd when facing down the course, but also for the 18th (hitting over the trees to the same green as the 9th over the pond). Again, numbered tee markers should be in place.

WGC apologises for any confusion this may cause, and is considering further ways of clarifying those tee positions.

Lightning, fog and ice

Woodford Golf Club is not able to use a klaxon to warn members or guests of severe weather conditions. The following policy has been adopted for members and guests to note:

Fog and ice
The fact that the course may not be officially closed does not warrant that it is fit for play. Players have a duty of care not to behave in such a way that others may be injured by their actions. They also have a duty of care not to injure themselves. If conditions are foggy and the player is unable to see where the ball is likely to land or ground conditions are such that it is impossible to judge how far the ball is likely to travel, DO NOT PLAY! Playing in such conditions is dangerous – players do so at their own risk.

Lightning
If there is a risk of lightning, players are advised to stop play – if in competition, rule 6-8 of the Rules of Golf explains the procedure to be taken. In the absence of a klaxon, play can resume once the threat of lightning has passed. When not in competition, players are still advised to stop play but it is their decision whether to continue or not. Playing in such conditions is dangerous and players do so at their own risk.

See below WGC policy for inclement weather and golf in dangerous situations.
